Work-life balance ranked higher post pandemic

The work-life balance of Brits has risen during the pandemic to hit an average rating of 7.2 out of 10.

Over 2,000 households across the country were surveyed to learn how the pandemic has affected their work-life balance. The results showed that the average rating for work-life balance improved by 0.4 when compared to before the pandemic. 

Experiences of work-life balance throughout the pandemic varied based on gender. Overall, nearly one quarter (23%) of Brits agreed that their work-life balance has improved because they spend less time commuting. However, men are more likely to feel this way than women, with 30% of men agreeing in comparison to only 17% of women. This may be due to the un-paid work women undertake which either remained the same or was exacerbated during the pandemic, especially with children being out of school.  

With no commute, employees have more time for family or hobbies, but they may also feel pressured to work extra hours while at home. Some people have lost their jobs or are unable to work, and any extra time at home may be less welcome. Overall, however, nearly a quarter (23%) of people say their work-life balance has improved.
