According to studies, employee fatigue has increased almost twice after the lockdown ended.


Fatigue reports have more than quadrupled after lockdown limits were relaxed early this year, according to study.

According to a Glassdoor analysis of staff evaluations, mentions of burnout have climbed 128 percent since May 2021.

Furthermore, according to a website, which questioned 2,000 full-time Employees, half (52%) of respondents claimed work often interfered with their personal lives, while a third (35%) said they didn’t feel a healthy work-life balance was feasible in their present position.

Despite an increasing focus on employee well-being among companies since the outbreak began, these findings showed that businesses were still “not fully addressing the requirements of their workers,” according to Lauren Thomas, an economist at Glassdoor.

Claire McCartney, senior resourcing and inclusion advisor at the CIPD, agreed, saying that “it’s extremely essential that organizations have a strong culture of wellness, that should start with top leaders acting as role models” as more employees plan to work remotely in the long run.

Management training was a vital element of this, according to McCartney, so that people managers could have dialogues about wellness with their employees, as well as create output-based targets and clear work-life limits.

The Glassdoor study also discovered that workers are becoming increasingly unsure about what constitutes a healthy work-life balance, with two-thirds (67%) of those questioned stating their expectations for this balance have altered since the outbreak began.

Similarly, half of employees (48%) have made steps to improve their work / life balance during the epidemic, and two-thirds (66%) of workers indicated they want to modify their present work-life balance and are seeking for new solutions from their employers.

Furthermore, and over half of those polled (53%) agreed that companies should collaborate with staff and suggest a variety of initiatives to improve their work / life balance; a third (32%) stated “ they wanted a choice for where they work; and a similar percentage (28%) said they wanted to be able switch between workplace and leisure activities throughout the day.

Some stated that a shorter workweek and more paid time off were necessary for a good work-life balance.

According to the survey, work-life balance was a top priority for eight out of ten individuals when looking for their next job.

As applicant shortages worsen, Emma Stewart, co-founder of Timewise, believes companies should start thinking about how to implement flexible working practices to attract and retain talent. This was especially true in industries like retail and hospitality, where flexible work arrangements have been less popular in the past.

“For businesses like retail, hospitality, and travel, the issue is to provide workers greater influence and choice over when they work, not simply where they work… “Whether [that] means providing more early notice on shifts or consistency in hours so people can arrange their lives around it,” she explained.

“For many employees, the pandemic’s aftermath has blurred the borders between work and home,” Stewart said, “but for the millions in frontline positions, the flexibility to select where you work has not even been an option.”

According to Glassdoor’s research of job evaluations, the technology and finance industries have the best work-life balance, while the retail, hospitality, and travel industries have the worst.

According to Glassdoor, which ranked companies based on employee evaluations, the top-rated companies allow employees to do most tasks outside of the office and all have a flat hierarchy. Employees in the lowest-ranking industries, on the other hand, have less freedom, with many having set work patterns and primarily in-person jobs.

“The firms that scored well always gave a choice of options for workers,” Thomas noted. It’s apparent that a healthy balance is best reached when workers can individualize their approach to work, whether it’s the autonomy to determine one’s own schedule, hybrid working practices, or simply management’s faith that work will be delivered without being tethered to an office,” she added.
